Building Strong Foundations for Future Engineers

The First-Year Engineering (FE) programme at Gokhale Education Society’s R. H. Sapat College of Engineering, Management Studies & Research, affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, is designed to inspire, nurture, and prepare students for a successful career in engineering and technology.

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the revised Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) of SPPU, the FE (2024) curriculum provides a strong academic foundation while promoting innovation, creativity, ethical values, and lifelong learning. The programme serves as a common platform for students of all engineering disciplines, enabling them to develop scientific knowledge, technical competencies, and professional skills required to excel in the rapidly evolving world of engineering.

The Engineering Sciences Department is committed to percolating and strengthening the fundamental knowledge of Engineering Sciences by imparting quality education in Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, and Engineering Chemistry. The department strives to cultivate scientific temper, analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities that form the cornerstone of every engineering discipline. Through an effective blend of classroom teaching, laboratory experiments, experiential learning, and practical applications, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the basic sciences and their significance in solving real-world engineering problems.

In addition to the core curriculum, the department actively promotes co-curricular and value-added learning in accordance with the SPPU curriculum and the vision of NEP 2020. Students are encouraged to participate in:

– Hands-on laboratory experiments and project-based learning.

– Technical seminars, expert lectures, workshops.

– Innovation, design thinking, and problem-solving activities.

– Technical competitions, quizzes, poster presentations, and model exhibitions.

– Environmental awareness, sustainability initiatives, and community engagement programmes.

– Professional skill development, communication, teamwork, leadership, and lifelong learning activities.

The department also integrates the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) to provide students with an appreciation of India’s rich scientific and technological heritage. Through IKS, learners explore the contributions of ancient Indian scholars in mathematics, chemistry, metallurgy, astronomy, architecture, and sustainable technologies. This holistic approach connects traditional wisdom with contemporary engineering education, fostering ethical values, cultural awareness, innovation, and responsible engineering practices.

Our vision is to create an engaging, inclusive, and student-centric learning environment that empowers learners to explore, innovate, and excel. By nurturing strong fundamentals in Engineering Sciences along with professional skills, co-curricular excellence, and ethical values, the department prepares students to become competent, socially responsible, and globally competitive engineers capable of contributing meaningfully to society and technological advancement.
